Virginia L. Shannon, 82, was received into the arms of her Savior on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Parkridge Specialty Care in Pleasant Hill. Funeral services will be held 1 pm Monday, June 5th at Iles Grandview Park Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Additional services will be held 1 pm Tuesday, June 6th at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City where the family will receive friends one hour prior to that service. A family graveside service will be held later at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.

Virginia was born on June 2, 1940, in Carbondale, Iowa, to Oral Lee and Mabel (Murrow) Brady.  After graduating high school, Virginia trained as a nurse.  She worked as an LPN for over 25 years, retiring in 2005.  She had lived in Sioux City and Mesa, Arizona before returning to central Iowa.  Virginia loved music and enjoyed singing in choirs, and also playing the piano and organ. Family time was important to Virginia, especially around the holidays.  She also enjoyed hunting morel mushrooms and making noodles for Rising Sun Setters.

Survivors include her children: Brian Smith, Neal Smith, Renee (Mike) Anson; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; stepchildren: Deb (Robert Wortman) Shannon, Tim (Lori) Shannon, Dennis (Donna) Shannon, Mick Shannon; sister, Colene Lawnsdale.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; siblings: Gerald Brady, Marilyn Helmick, and Yvonne Coe; stepson, Leonard Shannon; and granddaughter, Sarah Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League, Humane Society or LDS Humanitarian Aid.
