Timothy Duane Johnston

April 27, 1955 — September 24, 2022

Timothy Duane Johnston, 67, passed away at home surrounded by his family on September 24th after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral home in South Sioux City, NE. The funeral service will be on Thursday, September 29th at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St. John's cemetery in Jackson, NE.

Tim was born on April 27, 1955 in Coleridge, Nebraska to Willard and Floydene Johnston (Wiig). Until the age of 10 he lived on the family farm, after which he moved to South Sioux City, NE. Tim graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1973. He married the love of his life, Debra Cornell on April 3, 1976 and they raised three beautiful children together. He was employed with Floyd Valley until he started at Knox Gelatin where he was a lifetime employee. In 2015, Tim and Debra moved to their dream home in Jackson, Nebraska with a beautiful view of the Missouri River.

Tim loved being on the river and taking his family boating on his pontoon. He bought and rebuilt a cabin cruiser that he named the Angela Marie, after his youngest daughter.  He cherished time with his family and loved taking them on camping trips. He even turned an old city bus into a camper!  He was a car collector and a Chevy man. He always had a Corvette in his garage. He loved German shepherds and raised and bred several of them during his lifetime.

Tim was also a devoted Cornhusker football fan and a talented knife maker. He was a finder of treasures whether it was in an antique store or on the ground. He was a great storyteller with the best sense of humor. Thank you for making us laugh so hard. You were truly one in a million. Tim loved his Lord and knew his Bible well. He was an intelligent, self educated man who has graduated Summe Cum Laude from the school of life. We will miss you until we see you again.

Tim is survived by his loving wife Debra Johnston, who took care of him to the very end;       two daughters/son-in-laws, Rochelle and Jeremy Reavis of Lincoln, NE and Angela and Jason Meyer of Sgt. Bluff, IA; sisters, Kellie Theiss of Minnesota and Crystal Sparks of Michigan; brother, Bill Johnston; five grandchildren, Jake and Emmeline Reavis, Brady and Brynlee Meyer, and Evan Johnston; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Tim was blessed with wonderful friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his son, Chad Johnston, his parents, Willard Johnston and Floydene Mathiesen, and his younger brother, Bradley Johnston.
