Ruth (Green) Hamilton

February 29, 1924 — February 5, 2021

Ruth Hamilton, formerly known as Ruth Green, 96, of Sioux City, passed away February 5, 2021, at Sunrise Retirement Community.  A funeral service will be held Friday, February 12 at 1:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.  Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Ruth was born on February 29, 1924, in Sioux City to John and Myrtle (Phipps) Milton.  She graduated from East High School in 1943 and started working at Morningside College.  She was united in marriage to Dr. Robert Wood Green on December 31, 1943. She was an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Sioux City, having served as its president and Chair of the Pastoral Search Committee.  She was a member of many organizations including PEO, Miercoles Club, Mary Treglia Board of Directors, WACO Board, Siouxland United Way and Siouxland Mental Health. She was awarded the Order of Morningside by Morningside College, was selected as a Woman of Excellence by Sioux City Women Aware and was listed in Who’s Who of American Women.  She worked at Morningside College for many years in many positions and retired in 1994, as Vice President of Institutional Research and Planning, having obtained the financing which established Morningside’s nursing program.

Ruth loved to have large gatherings at her home. Which included not only her family but also an extended family of Morningside College students, faculty, alumi and coworkers. After ten years of widowhood, she married her high school classmate, Gail Hamilton. In 1999, the couple moved to Chesterfield, MO. In August of 2002 the couple relocated back to Sioux City.    

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother John (Jack) Milton, first husband, Dr. Robert Wood Green, second husband Gail B. Hamilton, son-in-law William Montignani and daughter, Sandra (Green) Montignani.

Those left to honor her memory include her son, Bob Green and wife Carla, Sioux City, IA; grandchildren include John Hartnett and wife Jennifer, of Texas, Tom Green, Sioux City, Nicole Pollard and husband Eric, of Texas, Kirsten Fiegel and husband Jim, Sioux City, William (“Billy”)Montignani and wife Karen, of Texas, Jennifer Green, Sioux City, and Elizabeth Green, world traveler, Eleven Great Grandchildren, Jacob, Jonah, and  Justus Hartnett, Amber Izaguirre, Nicholas Garza, Dan and Claire Fiegel, Lynden and Mikey Montignani, Brenden and Colin Andre and three Great Great Grandchildren include Caitryn Shae, Connor, and Kinsley Izaguirre. Former daughter-in-law Kathleen Green, many nieces, nephews, PEO sisters, and friends.

Ruth’s family would like to thank Sunrise Retirement Community staff for providing her excellent care. She would have been a resident for five years in April. We will be having a Celebration of Life in May when more family can attend so staff can share their stories and Memories of Ruth.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Noah’s Hope, Sioux City, as she was a lover of animals.
