Michael William "Mike" Bartels

  Michael William “Mike” Bartels, 63, of South Sioux City, NE, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Mohr & Becker Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.   Mike was born on July 26, 1959 in Denver, Colorado, to Lucille Alma Bartels. He graduated from Homer High School in 1977. After high school, he moved to Lincoln, NE. He eventually moved back to Dakota City around 1984, and then to South Sioux City where he lived until his passing.

  On June 15, 1985, he married Laurie Croxen in Sioux City. 

  Mike had an array of talents. One that he really loved was photography. He started at Color Lnk in Lincoln, where he worked until he moved back to Dakota City where he started his own photography studio, Michael B’s Photography. It became Lamb Custom Color Lab when he married Laurie. He used his skills to work at Gateway Computers and also as a prosthetic tech at Hanger Prosthetics. He also dabbled in light construction work. 

  He frequently did security for the Bellview Ballroom in Sioux City, as well as maintenance. He also owned a woodworking business called Woodcrafts by Michael. Throughout the years, he created many different things with wood. 

  Survivors include his wife, Laurie Bartels of South Sioux City; son, Joshua Bartels of South Sioux City; daughters: Elizabeth (and her fiance), and Moriah Bartels, both of South Sioux City, and Kaylinda (Austin) Holloway of Emerson, NE; grandchildren: Giselle, Houstin, Jaxin, and Aubriella; sister, Susie Harris of Omaha, NE; and mother-in-law, Margaret “Mrs. C” Croxen of South Sioux City. 

  He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille; and his maternal grandmother, Lucille O’Connell. 

  Honorary pallbearers will be Houstin and Jaxin Holloway, Keaton Croxen, Jerry Croxen, Duane Liska, Paul Colby, and Charles Chaffin. 

  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mike’s name to Hospice of Siouxland or the Siouxland Humane Society.
