Hilda was born November 28, 1922, in Clear Lake, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Amelia (Winterfeld) and Rudoph Hamann.

Hilda grew up on a farm outside of Clear Lake, South Dakota. She attended Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, SD and became a registered nurse through the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. There is a picture of her and the graduating class at the Nurses Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. She served as an RN at San Francisco’s Naval Hospital at the end of World War II caring for wounded soldiers arriving home. She continued her career at St. Joseph Hospital and Marion Health Center (now Mercy One) in Sioux City, Iowa. Hilda took pride in her nursing career.

She married Eugene “Gene” Faber on August 29, 1953, in Clear Lake, Iowa. They made their home on the family farm outside of Sioux City, Iowa. Hilda enjoyed the farm, being outside, taking care of the animals, and her pet dogs and cats.

Hilda is survived by her daughters Lujean Faber, Kathy Faber and Carol Faber; brother Herbert (Beverly) Hamann, sister-in-law Darlene Hamann along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene Faber in 1976; brothers Marvin Hamann, Albert “Bud” Hamann, Donald “Don” Hamann, and Alvin Hamann; her sister Velma Pemberton; and nephew Lonnie Hamann.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunrise Retirement and St. Croix Hospice.
