Born February 11, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa to George I. Colt and Neva (Elliott) Colt. George grew up in the North Sioux City and Jefferson, South Dakota area, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1951. George proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict from April of 1953 through March of 1955. Upon returning from duty he began working at Armour and continued his job there until 1963. During that time he met and married Diana Marie (Wormersley) on August 6, 1961 in Sioux City Iowa. George and Diana were blessed with two children during their marriage, Lori Jean and Scott Raymond. George felt honored to join the Sioux City Fire Department in 1964. He loved his career and his fellow firefighters. George retired after 30 years on the job in 1994 at the rank of Lieutenant. If there was anything he enjoyed more than telling firehouse stories it was only taking his family to the races. They were a family that loved sprint cars and sports. He passed those loves down to many generations behind him.

On October 5th, 1988 George lost his dear first wife, Diana, to cancer. His faith proved strong and carried him through the painful loss. A loving God had plans for him and brought a wonderful woman, Mary B. (Wyant) into his life two years later. George and Mary were united in marriage on February 23, 1991 in Sioux City, Iowa. They joined their families together and their relationship grew strong. Together they opened a business in their retirement years called Colts Courier Service. George's lifelong love of cars (mostly Chevy's) and the open road proved a perfect fit. They could spend time together and stay busy. George was not one to sit around without a task to take care of, unless maybe a ball game or two was on the TV. George was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and never missed watching a game. He loved baseball too and there are stories of him watching both the Hawks and the Cubs at the same time. George loved watching his family participate in sports too. He cheered them on and always gave good advice. He was kind and encouraging even in his coaching moments.

Mary and George wanted to slow down in 2012 and made the move to Arizona, just for the winter at first, then choosing to stay longer and spend time with youngest daughter Jenny and her family there for a few years. They enjoyed their time in the sun but health and home were calling them back to Iowa.  They were blessed to move back to their same home in 2017. As George’s health failed he continued to enjoy his favorite games in his favorite recliner with his special feline friend Angel on his lap. Mary was always close by his side, sharing every moment, together holding firm to their faith in God’s enduring love and grace. George moved into the Sunrise Memory Care unit in Sioux City, just a short drive from his home. It brought them both comfort knowing they were always close.
