Dorothy Jean Keane

Dorothy Jean Keane, 99 of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at Holy Cross Parish Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. David Hemann will officiate. To view the service online please visit:

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday. There will be a rosary recited by the St. Therese Study Club at 4:30 P.M. and a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Friday all at the Church. Dorothy was born October 22, 1922 in Sioux City; she was the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Higney) Meyer. Dorothy graduated from St. Boniface Grade School in 1936 and from Cathedral Girls High School in 1940.  She attended Edwards Business School and was employed in the Civilian Personnel Office at the Sioux City Airbase during WWII.

On December 27, 1943, Dorothy married Kenneth M. Keane at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Dr. Keane passed away August 31, 2014 in Sioux City. 

Dorothy was a homemaker with a loving family as her first priority. She enjoyed traveling and golf. Dorothy was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Church Choir for many years. She served on the Carmelite Guild Board and was a member of the St. Therese Study Club of Blessed Sacrament Parish. She was also a member of chapter DH of the P.E.O.  and a past member of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, the St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary and St. Luke’s Medical Center Auxiliary. Dorothy and Kenneth received the Briar Cliff “Year of The Family” Medal in 1980. Dorothy will be remembered by her family and many others who she touched for her unconditional love and her beautiful kindness throughout her life.

Survivors include her 12 children: Jim Keane (Mary) of Phoenix, AZ, Bob Keane (Linnea) of Dakota Dunes, SD, Tom Keane (Sandy) of Sioux City, Mary Jean Mugan (John) of Henderson, NV, Mike Keane (Kathy) of Dubuque, IA, Ed Keane (Jane) of Sioux City, Kathy Kallin (John) of Moville, IA, Dan Keane (Roxanne) of Sioux City, David Keane of Sioux City, Therese Risinger (Lyle) of Dakota City, NE, John Keane (Ruth) of Sioux City and Kevin Keane (Joanne) of Sioux City; 44 grandchildren and 71 great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth; an infant brother and infant sister, grandson-in-law: Alvin Danguilan; brother, Robert Meyer and a sister, Mary Meacham.

Memorials may be directed to the Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools.

The family would like to thank Holy Spirit Retirement Home and Hospice of Siouxland for their wonderful care of Dorothy.
