Lora I. McDermott

Lora I. McDermott, 88, of South Sioux City died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Matney's Colonial Manor following a lengthy illness.

In keeping with Mrs. McDermott's wishes, all services will be private. Her ashes will be buried in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mrs. McDermott was born Jan. 11, 1919, in Sioux City, the daughter of LeRoy B. and Grace (Patterson) Stratton. The family moved to South Sioux City in 1920. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1937. She also graduated from Samuel's School of Beauty Culture in Sioux City. She was the owner of the Orpheum Building Beauty Salon until the mid 1970s. She then worked at Marian Health Center (now Mercy Medical Center - Sioux City) until retiring.

She married James W. Walsh on Sept. 6, 1946, in Elk Point, S.D. She then married Michael McDermott on Nov. 27, 1964, in Dakota City.

She liked reading and working in her yard, especially tending to her roses.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Thomas V. and Marion Walsh of Sioux City; three granddaughters, Michelle and her husband, Jason Taylor and Amy Walsh, all of Sioux City and Laurie Walsh-Bayless and Ron Bayless of Indianapolis, Ind.; a grandson, Matthew Walsh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and four great-grandchildren, Jaylen and Jacob Taylor of Sioux City and Braxton and Braylee Bayless of Indianapolis, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, LeRoy E. Stratton.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the American Lung Association and Hospice of Siouxland.
