SIOUX CITY | Paula F. Kulawik, 90 of Sioux City, Iowa died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Msgr. Roger Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be made online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Paula was born Feb. 4, 1923 in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Louis and Josephine (Palupa) Riedmann. She graduated from Creighton University School of Nursing where she served in the Army Student Nurse Corps in 1942. On April 27, 1946 she married Sigmund J. Kulawik in Omaha, NE. The couple made their home in Sioux City in 1946 where they raised their six children. Paula worked as a Registered Nurse for over 35 years, retiring from St. Joseph Hospital. She co-owned and operated Brothers Paper Box Co. with her husband from 1947 until 1984. Her husband died on April 14, 1983. She was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Church and the Ladies Confraternity. After her retirement she was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center. Paula was an avid Cubs fan and an avid reader. Her creative interests included gardening, cooking and needlepoint. She enjoyed traveling, listening to opera, and walking with her friend Dorothy. Survivors include five children, Kathryn and Steven Larson of Sioux City, Constance and Alan Miller of Monument, CO, Karen and David Davies of Bentonville, AK, Mark Kulawik of Berkley, CA and Denise Kulawik of Minneapolis, MN; ten grandchildren, Emily (Matthew) Alm, Jeremy Drucker, Kimberly Larson, Christopher (Brigit) Larson, Matthew Miller, Andrew Miller, Daniel (Monika) Davies, Kristina Cornwell, Marc (Clara) Davies and James Davies; 10 great-grandchildren, Ethan and Anna Alm, Chloe, Colette and Sawyer Larson, Matthew, Andruw, Alexandria and Madyson Davies and Molly Davies; two sisters, Helen Griffin of Silver Springs, Maryland and May Kay Riedman of Lincoln, NE; and nieces and nephews. Paula is also survived by many special caregivers at Holy Spirit whom she loved as family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Christine Drucker, and her beloved companions Ginger and Maggie. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Memorials may be made in her name to Blessed Sacrament Church, Holy Spirit Retirement Home or Hospice of Siouxland.
