Yvonne Josephine Conklin

  Yvonne Josephine Conklin, 89, of South Sioux City, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023 at a local care facility. Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Mohr & Becker Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.   Yvonne was born on November 1, 1933 on the family farm near Hamill, SD, to Dale and Josephine (Janousek) Blare. She attended country school near her home through the 8^th grade. She graduated from Winner High School in Winner, SD, and then from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD.

   She worked in the offices of George A. Hormel, Co. in Mitchell until moving to Denver in 1958. She moved to Sioux City and married Merrill G. Conklin, Sr. on August 18, 1965. Yvonne worked in the office at National Food Stores until 1970. She then worked in the office at Sears for 21 years until her retirement in August of 1998.

  She enjoyed making beaded and plastic canvas crafts.

  Survivors include her son, Brett Conklin (Eva); grandchildren: Holly Rassmunsen (Keith), Amy Pearson (Michael), Ruby Conklin, Jacob Conklin (Brooke), and Mikel Schreiber; great-grandchildren: Kaydance, Lillie, Gage, Leilani, and Elliot; step-sons: Gary Conklin (Joan), Warren Conklin (Sherry), and Kent Conklin (Diane); several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives including siblings-in-law.  

  She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill G. Conklin in 2009; step-son, Merrill Conklin, Jr.; her siblings: Duane Blare, Vada Blare, and Sonja Putzier; and several siblings-in-law.
