Dr. William J. "Bill" Price III, a distinguished figure in the field of clinical and industrial psychology, passed away on March 18, 2026, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, following complications from a surgical procedure. Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City, Iowa with Neil Peck officiating. Visitation will begin on Saturday, April 4th at the Temple at 9:30 a.m. with family present. Fellowship and a luncheon will conclude Bill's Celebration at the Temple. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on February 16, 1945, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Bill’s life was marked by dedication to his profession, family, and community service.
Bill’s academic journey began at Sidney High School in Sidney, New York, where he graduated with the Class of 1963. He then pursued higher education at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, from 1963 to 1967. His commitment to advancing psychological sciences led him to the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where he earned both his Master's and PhD degrees in Psychology. These credentials laid the foundation for a successful career devoted to understanding and improving human behavior in both clinical and industrial settings.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was a man of varied interests and passions. He enjoyed golf, baseball, and was an avid reader with a particular fascination for Civil War history. His enthusiasm for sports was evident in his unwavering support for the New York Yankees, Nebraska Huskers, and Minnesota Vikings. Bill’s engagement with these activities reflected a well-rounded and deeply curious nature.
Bill took great pride in his involvement with the Abu Bekr Shrine, an organization with which he was honored to be a Mason. This affiliation exemplified his commitment to fraternity, service, and community betterment—values that defined his personal and professional life.
On November 19, 1983, Bill married Barbara A. Doht, who survives him and resides with him in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. Their partnership was a cornerstone of his life, providing steadfast support and companionship.
Bill is also survived by his children and their families, who carry forward his legacy: his son Christopher E. Price and wife Brook of Norfolk, Nebraska, along with their children Peyton (Logan), Baylor, TJ, and Colton; his daughter Kimberly A. Strand and husband Jason of Norfolk, Nebraska, and their children Makenna (Jacob) and Nolan; and his step-son Travis A. Gilster and wife Shelby of Austin, Minnesota, together with their children Garrett, Carter, and Kendall. Bill’s brother, Thomas E. Price ("Tinker") of Oneonta, New York, and Thomas’s children Kelly (Randy), Joely (Doug), Ryan (Jen), and Jordan, also remember him fondly. Additionally, he leaves behind great-grandchild Bennett N. Speidel. Family ties are further extended through his brother-in-law Alan Doht and wife Shawn, and sister-in-law Connie (John) Miller.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Gail Nelson.
William John "Bill" Price’s life was characterized by intellect, dedication, and a deep commitment to the well-being of others. He leaves behind a lasting impact through his professional contributions and the cherished memories held by his family and friends. His legacy endures in the hearts of those who knew him and the communities he served.
William J. Price III Ph.D
William (Willy, Bill, Billy, Dad, Grandpa, UB) entered into the Lord’s warm embrace of heaven peacefully on March 18th, 2026 a few days after a complicated surgical procedure. William was surrounded by many loved ones throughout his hospital stay up until the moment of his passing.
Where does one start when trying to compose a dissertation on someone’s life that encompasses so many facets? Universally, everyone who came across Bill was instantly struck by his intelligent, witty, and humorous personality. Never one to miss a good time he genuinely enjoyed hanging out with friends and family over a beer watching his beloved Yankees, Huskers, golf, or any other sporting event that brought people together. He was very well-read and could talk about batting averages just as easily as he could discuss Civil War battles.
Raised in Sidney, NY (near Cooperstown for those baseball fans out there) with his brother Tom he excelled not only academically but in athletics as well. Much to the dismay of his son Christopher this is where he acquired Mickey Mantle rookie cards that somehow never survived his youth. At least there were visits to Yankee Stadium to see the guy in real life! Many of us in the Price family wear the NY insignia emblazoned on everything from our hats and shirts to vehicles as a universal bond. Occasionally there may be some complaining about wins and losses but I digress. The stories of Tom and Billy convincing Grandma Price to drag the Sunday dinner table into the living room so they could watch the Giants lends some insight into the sports gene. Somehow Tom became a Cowboys fan but I’ll let him explain this lapse in judgement.
After high school Bill matriculated at Michigan State where many of us heard about the time Tom flew out to see Billy so they could attend the famous Notre Dame Michigan State 10-10 game. Following his graduation from Michigan State Bill went to the University of Kentucky to pursue his Ph.D in psychology. Bill was married to Sandy and it was during this time that a son Christopher and a daughter Kim were born. Shortly after graduation the family relocated to Norfolk, Nebraska in 1975. Following a divorce Bill and Barb were united in marriage in 1983 bringing a step-son Travis into the family. This union afforded the farming community of Pender many gregarious laughs I’m sure.
Everyone who knew Bill would describe him as the most intelligent man in the room. When asked to speak at his brother’s wedding it’s likely only a handful could understand the vocabulary without consulting a thesaurus or dictionary (yes this was pre-google). Grandpa was always utilized to help his children and grandchildren compose various papers and statements in the academic realm. Often, he had to adjust the writing and use of language to not expose the identity of the author! “(Dad or Grandpa) normal people don’t write stuff like that can you make it sound more realistic?” No it wasn’t AI it was Bill Intelligence.
Barb was the love of Bill’s life. They were married for 42 years and lived in Minnesota , Nebraska, and South Dakota throughout their marriage. Bill and Barb were always present together at Christopher, Kim, and Travis’s family events. All of the grandchildren and children were loved and were the joy of their lives together. Bill will be missed by everyone. His friends and family thoroughly enjoyed his company. I’m sure everyone has stories they will tell unique to their encounters with this man. I take the most comfort in knowing that Bill loved his Savior Jesus. Many of you who knew Bill may find this as a shock but I witnessed it in his final days and his closest confidants will attest to the truth in his beliefs. Rest assured that we will all be together again. Until that time comes we will remember Bill with love and fond memories.
The jokes, laughs, bits of wisdom, lessons, and love will be missed by all. So until we meet again lets raise a glass and send a salute all the way to Heaven!
