William L. "Bill" McNear

William L. “Bill” McNear, 84, of Newcastle, NE passed away Sunday, May 2^nd, 2021 surround by his family at home.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Newcastle, NE with Father Andrew Sohm celebrating.  Visitation will be Friday, May 7, 2021 from 6:00-7:00 P.M. with a Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home.  Those wishing to join virtually may do so by clicking this link:  https://youtu.be/zOJBXV5B3X0. Bill was born August 9, 1936 in Anthon, Iowa, the son of Lester and Marie (King) NcNear.  He graduated from Luton, Iowa High School in 1955.  Bill enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1962.  Bill married Donna Peterson at St. Joseph Catholic Church on April 27, 1957 in Salix, Iowa.  To this union, six children were born.  After the military, Bill farmed and bought his farm in Newcastle in 1967.  Bill bought the Newcastle Feed & Supply store in 1979 and owned and operated the store until retiring from the business in 2012.

Bill’s family and his faith were the two most important things in his life.  He cherished the family get-togethers and spending time with his grandchildren.  Bill also enjoyed planting flowers and when he was younger, he enjoyed bowling and playing and coaching softball in Newcastle.  He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.  A loving husband, father, and grandfather of devout faith will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years Donna McNear of Newcastle; children:  Gene (Lynda) McNear of Bronson, IA, Carla (James) Jensen of Sioux City, Thomas (Jami) McNear of Rockland, MI, Daniel (Brenda) McNear of Newcastle, NE, Leann (Daniel) Attema of Newcastle, NE, and Christopher (Brenda) McNear of Dakota City, NE; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother Richard (Mary) McNear of Hubbard, NE; and sister Patricia (David) Donnelly of Homer, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James, and great grandson Landen.

Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be all Grandchildren.
