January 5, 1939 — August 1, 2025

Sioux City, Iowa

Wilbur W. Peters, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 1, 2025. A celebration of Wilbur's life will be held on Saturday, August 9th 2025, at 9:30 am with a visitation one hour prior at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, 1431 W 29th Street, South Sioux City, NE 68776, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory. Interment will follow at Taylor Cemetery in rural Homer, Nebraska.

Born on January 5, 1939, in Homer, Nebraska, raised in Hubbard and he was the cherished son of Rudolph and Freida Peters. Wilbur's journey through life was marked by his deep love for family, his passion for building, and his unwavering spirit. A proud graduate of Hubbard High School, Class of 1957, Wilbur was known for his athleticism, particularly his love for basketball. Nebraska was not just the place he lived; it was his home, where he created lasting memories in various towns, including South Sioux City, Hastings, and ultimately returning to Homer to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

For 60 years, Wilbur dedicated himself to the construction industry as an equipment operator. His hands were his tools, and he took great pride in remodeling houses, building sheds, roofing, and restoring old barns. His craftsmanship was a testament to his work ethic and creativity, leaving a lasting impact on the homes he touched.

Wilbur found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved taking long walks with his dogs and driving through the countryside, always curious about the world around him. A true sports enthusiast, he enjoyed watching baseball, football, and basketball on television. However, nothing brought him more joy than dancing to music of any genre; if it had a beat, you could be sure Wilbur was on the dance floor.

He is survived by his loving brothers, Leonard, Ron (Betty) Peters, and Bob Peters; his children, Willie Peters; stepchildren Steve Polly, Shane Polly, Cameron (Felicia) Polly, and Robin Frost; and his cherished grandchildren: Jocey Peters, Jacey Peters, Seth Shilling, Brittany (Trent) Wilson, Cierra Siegel, Shayna Polly and Cody Polly, Christopher Polly and Ericka (Nick) Hartwig, Lance Polly, Vanessa Polly, Miranda (Code) Thomas, Landon Rembe, and Addison Johnson and great grandchildren.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Emogene Peters; parents, Rudy and Freida Peters; his brothers, Roger and Vernon Peters; his sister-in-law Shirley Peters, his daughter, Wendy Peters; and stepchildren Lance Polly and Scott Frost.

Pallbearers will include Zach and Bailey Peters, Dave Warnock, Scott Skow, Seth Shilling, and Wyatt Bates.

Wilbur W. Peters will be remembered for his generosity to help his family, kindness, his laughter, and the love he shared with all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed.
