Wayne was born the son of Ray and Ramona (Johansen) Samuelson on February 22, 1947 in Storm Lake, Iowa. He graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1965. Wayne married Vickie Sypersma on August 21, 1982 in Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home in Sioux City where they raised their three boys.

Sam worked as a daily delivery driver for UPS for 25 years. He also worked part-time at Floyd Golf Course and then in retirement at Lowe’s where he was known as, “Sam the Greeter”. He always brightened customers’ days with his bright smile and kind demeanor.

At his core Sam was a family man. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and grandchildren, especially entertaining at his home. He enjoyed fountain Diet Coke. And he loved to tell lame dad jokes. He did photography for years, woodworking, and his lawn was always meticulously maintained. He enjoyed his weekly Wednesday night date night with Vickie and visiting with people every chance he got.

Sam is survived by his wife, Vickie Samuelson of Sioux City; sons, Julius (Tiffany) Samuelson of Sioux City, Adam (Kendra) Samuelson of Clarinda, and Seth (Sarah) Samuelson of New Hampton; grandchildren, Zoey, Emma, Olivia, Henry, and Caleb; step-mother, Sue Johnson; siblings, Wanda (Steve) French, Vivian (Dennis) Verberg, Lori (Durwin) Tomperi, Robin (Terry) Downer, Heide Teague, and Lonnie (Beth) Samuelson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lyle.
