Wayne was born September 9, 1926 in Alvord, IA. He was the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Bahrenfuss) Kroger. Wayne graduated from Central High School in 1944. He then enlisted in the Navy, from June 1944-46. He was a Yeoman 3rd class and worked as a gunnery. He was honorably discharged due to an injury.

After the Navy, he came home and married Rosalyn Pedersen on April 12, 1947. Wayne worked in the meat packing plants until he retired. He then went to work for the City of Sioux City for another 25 years until the age of 87. Wayne enjoyed bowling and playing cribbage. He was on a cribbage league for more than 50 years. He was an active hunter and fisherman in early years. He was also an enthusiastic puzzler. But his most excitement came from going to Las Vegas and the local casinos. Wayne was a devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather. He was always there in the stands cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. He would do anything and everything for anyone.

Wayne is survived by his children: Vicki Pollard (Paul) of Sioux City, Kandace Clay of Sioux City, Pam Glick of Sioux City, and Kim Hetrick of Walthill, NE; grandchildren: Melissa Anderson (Ted) of Elizabeth, CO, Nicole Clay, Traci Clay, Tiffany Glick, Mindy Clay, Wayne Pollard, Justin Glick, and Austin Pollard all of Sioux City; and eight great grandchildren.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; wife Rosalyn; a son, Gary Wayne; a brother, Robert; a sister, Betty; a grandson, Garrett, and three sons-in-laws: Everett, Frank, and Jack.
