Walter "Walt" H. Clark passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Sioux City, IA, on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on September 13, 1938, in Parkersburg, IA, Walt was the son of Albert H. and June M. (Weltz) Clark. He spent his formative years in Le Mars, Iowa, where he graduated from Le Mars High School in 1957.
Walt’s high school years were marked by notable achievements; he was honored as the Homecoming King and distinguished himself as the quarterback of his football team. His athletic talents continued to shine as he played quarterback at Westmar College. During these years, Walt formed a band with friends called Walt Clark and the Jags. The band captured the spirit of their generation, recording music in Clovis, NM, and touring extensively across the country. Their musical legacy was cemented when they were inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
In October 1968, Walt was united in marriage to Janet, joining lives and families. He welcomed Janet’s two sons, Steven and Craig, as his own. Family was central to Walt’s life; his devotion to loved ones remained one of his greatest sources of pride and joy.
Walt’s professional journey was varied and enriched by his many interests. Early in his career, he had the unique opportunity to manage Great Bear Lodge in Canada, a role perfectly suited to his love of the outdoors. He later spent several years working in construction, followed by ownership of a sign business in Sioux City. He concluded his career with dedication at Wells Enterprises in the Sanitation Department.
Beyond his work, Walt enjoyed hunting and fishing, embracing the outdoors with enthusiasm. He and Janet shared a passion for attending sprint car races, creating treasured memories together. Walt’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a dedicated member of Wesley Global Methodist Church.
Known for his independence, deep caring nature, and friendly demeanor, Walt was a friend to all who knew him. His presence touched many lives with kindness and warmth.
Walt is survived by his stepson, Steven Sunt and wife Tamie; stepson, Craig Sunt; grandchildren Adam Sunt, Michael Sunt and his fiancée Sarah; Tiffany Russell and husband Grant; Michael Engel and wife Shannon; as well as seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and June, his wife Janet, and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Wesley Global Methodist Church, located at 3700 Indian Hills Drive, Sioux City, Iowa 51104. The memorial service will follow from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the same location.
