Virginia B. Parmelee, 88 of Sioux City passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2024 after a brief illness. A Celebration of Life Open House will be held 12-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Sioux City Elks Club. Private family graveside services will be held.
Virginia was the daughter of Geneva Boston and Patrick Conlon on August 7, 1935. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident. She attended St. Joseph grade school and Bishop Heelan Catholic High School, graduating in 1953. She attended Briar Cliff College and graduated from the WIT RN Program. While completing her schooling, she worked at Swift Co. After raising her family, she returned to a career of nursing and found great joy and love in serving those in need. She retired from Winnebago Community Hospital after many years of nursing. She married Vernon P. Parmelee on October 10, 1953. To this union 9 children were born.
Virginia loved her large family and spent many years involved in their activities. There was never a dull moment in the Parmelee household.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to Bishop Heelan High School. Virginia loved reconnecting with classmates at the monthly Heelan lunch bunch gatherings.
Survivors include her children: Paula Rose of Elk Point, SD, Peggy “Megan” of Rohnert Park, CA, Penny of Sioux City, IA, Paul (Deb) of Le Mars, IA, Phillip (Sandi) of Jefferson, SD, and Preston (Stephanie) of Tea, SD; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Patricia, Pamela, Paige and three stillborn children; and grandsons, Shannon, Abraham, and Benjamin.
