Born in Mason City, Iowa, to Sam and Marika Zahariades, Virginia graduated from Mason City High School and later moved to Sioux City to study nursing before her marriage to her husband, Steve Margeas. They were married on June 26, 1955, in Mason City, IA and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.
Virgina was first a homemaker until the 1970’s when she then owned and operated the 4th Street Café in downtown Sioux City, before joining her husband, Steve, in running the Coney Island restaurant, a downtown landmark they operated together until her retirement in 2018.
Virginia was a woman of traditional values, who was still ahead of her time. She had a zest for life and an eye for detail. Known for her sharp mind and quick wit, she brought laughter and light wherever she went. She had a flair for fashion, a passion for cooking and entertaining, and a gift for making every gathering feel special.
Faith and community were central to her life. Virginia was a proud 70-year member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where she served as president of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. She served as the church organist for many years and sang in the choir up until September of 2025.
Virginia found great joy in helping prepare for the annual Greek Festival alongside her friends in the church kitchen, a place filled with laughter, stories, and the aroma of their favorite recipes.
Along with her husband Steve, they cherished the friendships and many trips made with the Abu Bekr Shriners. They also enjoyed their winter getaways to Paradise Village in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Some of her happiest times were spent making memories at the family cottage on Clear Lake, IA.
When at home, she could be found watching the Cooking Channel or hosting family and friends around her backyard pool.
Above all, Virginia loved her family deeply. She delighted in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, attending countless sporting events and their extracurricular activities.
She is survived by her daughter, Maria (Roger) Schultz of Sioux City; brother Bob (Robin) Zack of Scottsdale, Arizona; sister Niki (Theodore) Pappas of Brookfield, Wisconsin; sister-in-law Daisy Margeas of Sioux City; grandchildren Zachary (Janna) Schultzhaus of Silver Spring, Maryland, Jordan (Amy) Schultz of Sioux City, and Beau Margeas and his mother Michelle Booge of Scottsdale, Arizona; great-granddaughters Connor Anne Schultz and Rose Margaret Schultzhaus. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, godchildren, and special koumbari, Alex and Kiki Karras and Joan Vlahoulis.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Steve Margeas; son George S. Margeas; her parents Sam and Marika Zahariades; siblings Gus Zahariades, Katherine (Aristotle) Pappelis; and brother-in-law Nick Margeas.
Virginia will be remembered for her elegance, humor, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and faith. Her spirit, laughter, and warmth will continue to live on in all who knew her. Memory Eternal.
