Viola Irene Cline passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at her home in Sioux City, IA, at the remarkable age of 103.

Born on November 20, 1922, in Carlock, SD, Viola was the daughter of William and Lena (Schrader) Woehl. She grew up a farm girl, attending country school in the rural communities that shaped her spirited character in both South Dakota and Nebraska. From an early age, Viola embodied the enduring virtues of hard work and resilience.

On her twentieth birthday, November 20, 1942, Viola married Clarence Cline. United in love and devotion, together they built a life marked by steadfast commitment and joy, blessed with eight children.

Viola was, above all else, deeply devoted to her family—a foundation which she built and nurtured with unwavering dedication. Those who knew her best fondly remember her as both a Pioneer Woman and the heart of her family. She took immense pride in being a homemaker, ensuring her household was filled with warmth and care. Beyond her home, Viola demonstrated a tireless work ethic, employed for several years at FW Means Uniform and Towel Company.

A woman of many interests, Viola loved playing Bingo, enjoyed reading Western novels, and traveling with Clarence whenever the chance arose. Her hands were seldom idle—her embroidery was a testament to her love, as she crafted special items for every family member, creating keepsakes that will be treasured for generations.

With a spirit both kind and compassionate, Viola welcomed each day with an open heart. Her family found joy in her stubborn determination, and her gentle nature touched all who knew her. She made a lasting impression on her loved ones by greeting them each morning through the computer—connecting across distances and brightening every day.

Viola's legacy continues in the lives of her surviving family: her children: Melvin (Dorothy) Cline, David (Lisa) Cline, Janice (Dan) Purk, Jim (Judy) Cline, and Donnie (Julie) Cline; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; her sister Velma Vance; and her brother Kenneth Woehl. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence; three children: Norman (Patricia) Cline, Judy Durbin, and Joann (William) Henry; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; and seven siblings.
