Victor “Vic” G. Lund, 63 of Sioux City ended his life Sunday, March 26, 2023 after an illness had diminished his quality of life and left him filled with anxiety. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Holy Cross Parish St. Michael. Luncheon will follow.
Vic was born the only son of Gordon and Louise (Browning) Lund on July 8, 1959 in Sioux City, Iowa. Vic grew up in Leeds spending time rebuilding cars or shooting hoops on the court. In jersey number 12 he was a high school basketball standout. People of a certain generation can remember hearing Rudy Salem on the radio exclaim “another basket by Vic Lund!” Later he was also a part of the Briar Cliff Men’s basketball team.
He graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1978 where he was an excellent student. He obtained his BA at Briar Cliff University in 1982 and attained CPA certification. Vic began his career at Sterling and Delperdang Public Accounting Firm. From there he served as a cost accountant at Swift Packing Plant and then relocated to Rock Valley where he worked at Hayes-Albion Corporation (formerly Koomia). Vic joined Sue Bee Honey in 1988 and retired as Vice President of Finance in 2021. At Sue Bee Honey, Vic wrote the accounting computer program and spearheaded impactful marketing initiatives
Vic married his high school sweetheart, Janice Lara on June 7, 1985 in Sioux City. They lived in Vermillion, SD and Rock Valley, IA before settling back home in Sioux City.
Vic’s joy came from watching, coaching, and playing sports with his children including basketball, golf, and tennis; taking long walks with Janice; and holding his grandchildren. Most early mornings he ran on his treadmill and lifted weights followed by a round of golf when weather permitted. He achieved six unattested holes-in-one. After retirement he took up bird watching. As a devout Catholic, Vic found attending Mass at St. Boniface Church comforting. He also enjoyed date nights with Janice, watching John Wayne Westerns, and reminiscing at family gatherings.
Vic was a hardworking, intelligent, humble, compassionate, and honest man. He will be remembered as a wonderful son, loving husband, caring brother, supportive father, protective grandfather, admired athlete, and more.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be directed to Boys and Girls Clubs of Siouxland.
Vic is survived by his wife, Janice Lund of Sioux City, IA; children, Michelle (Brent) Herron of Broomfield, CO, Vincent (Renee) Lund of Omaha, NE, Megan Lund of Omaha, NE, and Molly Lund of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Mila and Ava Herron and Nolan Lund; mother, Louise Lund of Sioux City, IA; sisters, Kay (William) Hinkhouse, Linn (Dan) Irwin, Cindy (Rick) Beyer, and Lori (William) Decker; and several nieces and nephews.
