Velma was born on December 17, 1932, in West Point, Nebraska, the daughter of Roy and Helen (Pospishil) Petz. She grew up on a farm graduated at the age of 16 from Scribner High School in Scribner, NE in 1949. After graduating, Velma was an accordion instructor and helped her parents on the farm. Velma’s journey of life truly flourished when she married her beloved husband, Earl Wege, on September 15, 1951, in rural Scribner, NE. With Earl by her side, she embraced her role as a homemaker and wonderful mother, nurturing a vibrant household filled with laughter and cherished memories. The family moved to Walthill, NE in the late 1950’s before settling in Ponca, NE in the early 1960’s.
Velma was not only an exceptional homemaker but also a woman of many talents and interests. She found immense joy in gardening, sewing, quilting, and cooking, often bringing her family together over delicious home-cooked meals. Her love for nature blossomed through her hobbies of camping, fishing, and boating, which she cherished, especially when shared with her family. Every moment spent with them was dear to her heart, marking her as a beloved figure in their lives.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Siebenborn of Sioux Falls, SD, and Mary (Steve) Goodrich of Omaha, NE. Velma was immensely proud of her grandchildren: Shannon (Mark) Johnson, Nicki (Tom) Decker, Gina Roberts, JD (Kayla) Roberts, Laura (Doug) DeVries, Andrew (Andrea) Siebenborn, Christopher (Kara) Goodrich, and Jamie (Anthony) Godtel. Her legacy continues to grow with the blessings of 16 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, and a son-in-law Terry Roberts, all of whom were enlivened by her love.
She rejoins her beloved husband, Earl, who preceded her in death in 2020, along with her parents, Roy and Helen Petz; her daughter, Susan Roberts; grandson, Scott Siebenborn; great-great-grandson, Colter Johnson; and sister, Vera Langemeier.
Though her physical presence has departed, the memories and love Velma cultivated will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be missed deeply, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who loved her.
