Velma Jean Schwaderer

Velma Jean Schwaderer, 86, of South Sioux City, NE, passed away surrounded by her family on February 20, 2023.  A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 25^th at 1:00 p.m. at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Velma was born on November 21, 1936 in Milbank, SD to Harm and Estella (Bruinsma) Schroeder.  She grew up in Rock Rapids, IA and was united in marriage to Roger Rohr and then later to Marvin Eugene Schwaderer.  Velma was a military spouse and lived overseas and in several states.  She settled in South Sioux City, where she worked at Zenith, IBP and most recently Walmart.  She enjoyed her Thursday shopping trips to Walmart to visit her friends.  Velma also enjoyed spending time with her dogs, crocheting, bird watching and feeding the birds in her yard.  There were always numerous kinds of birds, especially cardinals.  She was a “tough old bird” and was known as feisty, spunky, “Gram Cracker” to her family.  She loved her family and especially loved the Nebraska Huskers.

Those left to honor her memory include her children: Doreen (Rick) Bumann, Omaha, NE, Sue Aman, Sioux City, IA, Pam Riedmann, South Sioux City, NE, Kevin (Beth) Schwaderer, Sioux City, IA, Al (Christy) Schwaderer, Hinton, IA, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Keith (Beverly) Schroeder; and son-in-law’s: Doug Aman and Mark Riedmann.
