Upali “Eddie” Seneviratne, son of the late Punnyadasa Seneviratne and Mavis Muriel Seneviratne, a dedicated family man, brilliant engineer, and accomplished businessman, passed away at the age of 77 on May 19th, 2023. He attended junior/high school at Dharmapala Vidayala in Sri Lanka and continued his later education at Newcastle-Upon-Thyne in England. Upali pursued degrees in engineering and started his profession as an engineer early on in his life. He started his career as a marine engineer on a ship and traveled to many different countries. His exceptional intellect, unwavering work ethic, and profound love and dedication to his family will forever be remembered.
Born on May 3rd, 1946, in Baddulla, Sri Lanka, Upali was meant for greatness. His passion for understanding and innovation was evident from a young age. His brilliance shone through his work, and he made significant contributions to the community with his business. Later in his life, Upali co-founded SBI General and Mechanical with the Stewart brothers, Jerry and Steve, in 1999. Upali’s many contributions to the company were recognized and respected by many.
Throughout his life, Upali derived immense joy and success from his work, but his true happiness lay in the love he had for his family. He was a devoted husband, an amazing father, and a reliable brother. He treasured moments spent with his loved ones and provided them with unwavering support. He provided his family with opportunities that many can only dream of.
Upali’s absence will be felt deeply by his family, friends, and colleagues. His intellect, his legacy, and loyal heart will leave a mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. While his physical presence may be absent, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
Upali is survived by his mother, Mavis Muriel Seneviratne, his wife, Manjula Seneviratne, his children, Deepa Seneviratne, Ranjit “Raj” Seneviratne, Samuel “Sam” Herron, Kawya “Kai” Seneviratne, and Theekshana “Shana” Seneviratne. He also is survived by his five siblings, Susil Seneviratne, Chandra Seneviratne, Kanthi Samarasekara, Dushmantha Seneviratne, and Asoka Seneviratne. He is preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
A memorial service to celebrate Upali’s remarkable life and contributions to the community will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sep 22nd at Mohr & Becker Hunt Funeral Home, located at 1431, W 29th St, South Sioux City, NE 68776. A visitation will be held beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Though Upali may no longer be with us, his legacy will forever endure. May he find eternal peace, knowing that his profound impact on the world will never be forgotten.
