Thomas "Tom" Lee Cobb Sr.

January 29, 1967 — June 4, 2024

Sioux City, IA

Thomas L. Cobb, 57, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 surrounded by his children and family. A memorial service will be held at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 13th. A luncheon will immediately follow the gravesite burial at the Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Tom was born on January 29, 1967 to Penny S. (Cobb) Hedemark in Sioux City, Iowa. When he was young, he spent time with the Boys Club of Siouxland, playing softball. He attended West High School where he played basketball and baseball.

Tom enlisted directly into the Navy after graduation in 1985. His daughter, Cassandra, was born while he was in basic training. He married Becky McWilliams in 1985 and together, they moved to Winthrop Harbor near Chicago while he was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station where he trained as a boiler tech. Tom’s second child, Thomas Jr. (TJ) was born in 1987 while he was serving aboard the U.S.S. Coronado in Hawaii. Tom’s time in the navy also took him to California, Virginia, and Italy. Tom and Becky later divorced.

He continued to enjoy playing basketball, baseball, bowling in a league, going fishing, playing BINGO, and working on cars. Tom welcomed his third child, Levi, in 1992.

Tom married Pam Florke in 1999 and became a stepdad to Stephanie and Drew. He and Pam later divorced.

He eventually retired due to health concerns and spent his last few years listening to his favorite music, watching Happy Days reruns, and spending time with his companion, Stacy.

Tom played many roles in his life. He was a famous confectioner of fudge and connoisseur of desserts. He was the captain of his fishing boat, the Oldy but Goody. He was a duo-language conversationalist, a thrill ride superstar, a Pac-Man power player, and a horticulture enthusiast. He was a man who charged forward with long-legged strides, and when the music was blasting as loud as it would go, he was a one-man-air-band virtuoso. Above all, his favorite role was “dad,” and he never forgot to tell his kids that he loved them.

Tom is preceded in death by Penny and LeRoy Hedemark, Robert Smith, Beth Cobb, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is survived by his children: Cassandra Sammons (Jeremy) of Omaha, TJ Cobb (Emily) of South Sioux City, and Levi Walton of Sioux City, and by his sister: Terri Lepley (Mel) of Sioux City, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
