Thomas E. “Tom” Mahaney, 84, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the church. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Tom was born in Sioux City on March 2, 1939, the son of Joseph and Alma (Noonan) Mahaney. In June of 1960, he married Judy Bohlke and would spend nearly 63 years of loving companionship together. They raised five children. He was a lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He spent many nights making the fries at the St. Mike’s Famous Fish Dinners.
He graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1958 where he excelled at football and track. Upon graduation, he enlisted into the Marine Corps. Tom drove a truck for Booth Fisheries for 16 years and then went to work for Mid-American Energy until his retirement in 2000.
Tom loved playing fast-pitch softball and spent many nights playing at Hubbard Park. He coached football and baseball, and loved to golf and play poker with his buddies.
Those left to remember Tom are his wife, Judy Mahaney; five children: Becky (Bill) Fitchner, Mike (Tammy) Mahaney, Doug (Julie) Mahaney, Tom (Allison) Mahaney, and Jenny Mahaney-Schultz; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe; sisters, Georgia Barkley and Patricia Jordan; brothers-in-law, Dave, Rick, and Gary Bohlke, and Don Hansen.
