Terry was born August 6, 1936, in Orient, Iowa, the daughter of John and Thelma (Ray) Lilly. She graduated from Greenfield High School in Greenfield, Iowa. On July 17, 1976, she married Robert "Bob" Hammond in Omaha, Nebraska. Bob preceded her in death on October 31, 2019.
Terry was a proud American who held a deep love for her country and a strong belief in the importance of being involved in the democratic process. She was passionate about politics and dedicated countless hours of her time and energy supporting the candidates and causes she believed in. Her patriotism was more than just a feeling; it was something she put into action. She worked election polls, organized numerous political campaigns and rallies, and enthusiastically supported local and federal candidates. She believed that every voice mattered and that participating in the political process was both a privilege and a responsibility. Her commitment to civic involvement reflected her love of America and her desire to make a difference in the country she cherished.
Her dedication to serving others extended beyond politics. In her earlier years, Terry served as a chairperson for the March of Dimes, giving her time to an organization devoted to helping families and children. She was never one to sit on the sidelines when there was something she believed in or a cause she could support.
When she wasn't volunteering or involved in politics, Terry enjoyed tending to her flowers, feeding the birds, and collecting antiques. She especially enjoyed playing cards with friends at the Siouxland Center for Active Generations. She treasured the friendships and everyday moments that made life special.
Terry will be remembered for her strong convictions, generous spirit, devotion to the causes she believed in, and, above all, her unwavering love for her country. She leaves behind a legacy of commitment, involvement, and the belief that one person can make a difference.
Survivors include her children, Steve Lofgren of Rockwall, Texas; Sherry Lofgren of Wichita, Kansas; and Phil (Shelly) Lofgren of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Melanie Lofgren, Matthew Semple, Theresa Melia, Steven Lofgren, Gary Lofgren, and Andrew Semple; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Geneva Engle; daughters-in-law, Karen Lofgren and Lynn Lofgren; and extended family, Les (Sue) Hammond, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
