Terry L. Dahlquist

Terry L. Dahlquist, 75, of Sioux City, IA passed away Thursday June 8, 2023, at MercyOne Hospital in Sioux City. A Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday June 15, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service starting. Terry was born on March 4, 1948, to Robert and Rosemary (Benson) Dahlquist in Sioux Falls, SD. He graduated from Washington High School in 1966. He continued his education at Augustana College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1970. He went on to Iowa State University to obtain his master’s degree in 1972. He married the love of his life Kay Horton on June 17, 1972, in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union they had two children: Jennifer and Ryan. Terry was a schoolteacher throughout his life. He taught at South Sioux City, NE from 1973-1976; Norwalk School district from 1976 to 1979 and then Hinton school district from 1979 to 2006. Terry was a substitute teacher from 2006 until he retired in 2021.

Terry was a member of the Hinton, Siouxland, Iowa State and National Education Associations. He was also on the Board for the Sioux City Library. Terry liked reading, golfing, painting, playing cards with family and friends, puttering in the yard, and traveling—going to some of the places he’d taught about.

Terry is survived by his wife Kay Dahlquist of Sioux City, daughter Jennifer Dahlquist of Omaha, NE; son, Ryan (Marisa) Dahlquist of Seattle, WA, two brothers; Dana (Kay) Dahlquist of Sioux Falls, Mark (Lori) Dahlquist of Sioux Falls, one sister, Diane (Earl) Williams of San Benito, TX, many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Rosemary Dahlquist.
