Sylvia K. Stinger

Sylvia K. Stinger, 84, of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Whispering Creek Retirement Home.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Dakota City Cemetery.

Sylvia was born on April 2, 1940, in Pender, Nebraska, the daughter of Clifford and Joy (Longe) Nixon. She graduated from Dakota City High School. Sylvia married Billie Lee Stinger on May 24, 1958, in Dakota City, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2018, in Sioux City. Sylvia was a dedicated individual who spent 41 years as an export coordinator for Tyson Foods, exemplifying a strong work ethic throughout her professional life. 

She was an avid fan of Nebraska Husker Football and was actively involved in her community as a member of the PEO Chapter GX. Additionally, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City.

Sylvia is survived by her sons: Larry (Julie) Stinger of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Russell (Charlene) Stinger of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Her legacy continues through four cherished grandchildren: Kylie (Nick) Horan, Dylan (Kayla) Stinger, Colton Stinger, and Grayson Stinger. Sylvia also took great joy in her three great-grandchildren: Lilly Stinger, Sloane Horan, and Adeline Horan. She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Donna) Nixon of Springfield, South Dakota, and her sister, Judy Barker of South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Joy Nixon; her husband, Billie Lee Stinger; her brother, David Nixon Sr.; and her brother-in-law, Lloyd Barker.
