Susan Rae Lowell, née Perley, passed away at home in Sioux City, Iowa, on October 29, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 4, 1948, in Sioux City, and remained a lifelong resident of the community she called home.
Susan attended Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa. Over the years, she worked various jobs and later retired from the Sioux City Police Records Department after 14 years of service. She was dedicated to her husband and family, and that devotion shaped the life she built and the love she gave so freely.
She also found joy in the moments that made life memorable. Susan loved traveling the country with Dennis, and her girls, in their 1957 Chevy, and she treasured the time they spent wintering in Orange Beach, Alabama. She enjoyed playing Po-Keno with her friends for more than 50 years, a reflection of the lasting friendships and simple pleasures that meant so much to her.
Above all, Susan’s greatest happiness was her family. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Lowell, her beloved husband of 59 years. She also leaves behind her daughters, Kelli Lowell, Jennifer Lowell and her husband Shane, and Wendi Wood and her husband Brian. Her love continues through her grandchildren, Alex Schmitt and her husband Dallas, Mikell Zishka, Ian Zishka, Tyler Wood, and Jake Wood, and through her great-grandson, Lucas Schmitt. She is also survived by her sisters, Karen French and Lisa Lake, as well as several nieces and nephews who will remember her with affection.
Susan was preceded in death by her mother and father, Avis and Chuck Perley; her brother, David Perley; and her parents-in-law, Shirley and Don Lowell.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 3, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Oscar Carl Vineyard, 1473 Buchanan Avenue, Sioux City, Iowa 51106. Please join the family for a meal and memories during Susan's Celebration.
Her family extends special thanks to St. Croix Hospice, Unity Point Hospitals, and Sioux City Fire and Rescue for their love and support.
Susan will be remembered for her steadfast love, her loyalty to those closest to her, and the warmth she brought to everyday life. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
