IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan
Hatfield
June 12, 1932 – March 2, 2026
Susan Hatfield, 93, of Sioux City, Iowa, died Monday, March 2, 2026, in Sioux City. A memorial service will be held in June. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Susan W. Hatfield was born June 12, 1932 in Sioux City to Keith and Victorine (Williams) Strange. She graduated from Central High and attended Smith College, the University of New Mexico, and the University of South Dakota where she earned her doctorate in school psychology. She was a district director and camp counselor for Sioux Trails Girl Scout Council. Sue worked as a school psychologist for 24 years in Sioux City and western Iowa.
Summers meant swimming whenever possible. Sue loved to spend time with her family and friends, which always included (loud) laughter. She was active in several organizations including Planned Parenthood (former local president), the NAACP (scholarship committee), PFLAG as well as numerous mental health and substance abuse support programs. She served as a troop leader for girl and boy scout troops. Sue enjoyed traveling to see friends and family and was always up for an adventure. Driving trips frequently included sights not on the plan, from Niagara Falls, Royal Gorge, and detours through Canada to water parks, new places, and the family lakeside cabin in Minnesota. She was a voracious reader and especially loved mysteries, often finishing them in one day. Sue appreciated live music and concerts; she saw the Rolling Stones twice and the Carpenters.
Survivors include her daughter, Heidi Hatfield, and son, Rex Hatfield (Joe Harris); her grandchildren, Kasey Fagerquist (Joel Bremer) and Keith Fagerquist (Stephanie); nephews, nieces, and many cousins and friends.
Memorials given will be distributed by Sue’s family in her name to Planned Parenthood, Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue of Sioux City, and the Foodbank of Siouxland.
