Steven Jon “Steve” Weatherly, 68, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at a local hospital due to complications of chronic kidney and heart issues. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Steve was born on July 14, 1954 in Sioux City, to Robert and Donna (DeRaad) Weatherly. He graduated from the last class of Central High School in 1972. He went on to attend two years at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, and one year at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo, where he met his future wife, Judy Ludeking. The two were married on November 1, 1975 in Waukon, Iowa, and later had two children: Nathan and Brianna.
Steve and Judy spent forty years living in Sioux City, and Steve was an active member of the Siouxland community. He spent years as an entrepreneur, business owner, and in insurance. He was a member of the Castle on the Hill Association, LCMC Heartland District, and the Sioux City Business Leaders Club. He expressed his Christian faith through leadership in the church. He was on church council at First Lutheran Church, and then later at Morningside Lutheran Church.
In his free time, Steve enjoyed traveling to the Black Hills and the mountains, boating, fishing, golfing, and watching movies with Judy.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Weatherly of Sioux City; son, Nathan Weatherly (Julie) of Des Moines; daughter, Brianna Whitlatch (Alex) of Des Moines; grandchildren: Reese, Dane, and Blair Weatherly, as well as a granddaughter on the way due July 14; sister, Marla Harris (Keith); brother-in-law, Paul Loven; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a younger sister, Linda Loven.
Memorial donations may be directed to Steve’s family. A future donation will be made in his honor.
