Steven F. Trobaugh, a dedicated member of the Sioux City community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on August 27, 1953, Steve graduated from Central High School in 1971. He married Sandra Newman in 1977 and together they had two children, Derek and Alicia. On July 8, 1989, Steve married Melinda Quade (Forsling), expanding his family with Kirsten and Benton. He cherished his time with his children and grandchildren.
Steve dedicated the majority of his life to serving others through his distinguished career at the Sioux City Fire Department. His unwavering commitment spanned an impressive 34 years until his retirement in 2011. Throughout his career, Steve exemplified courage, compassion, and selflessness, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and friends. He was also a member of Augusta Lutheran Church. Many of his lifelong friendships were made watching the Chicago Cubs or Iowa Hawkeys at Jim’s Lounge and Court Street Tap.
Steve leaves behind a lasting legacy that extends through four generations of Sioux City firefighters including a son and grandson, a testament to his influence and mentorship within the department. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Steve was a passionate advocate for area burn survivors. He played a pivotal role in nurturing and expanding the Miracle Burn Camp, contributing over a decade of his time as a counselor. His dedication helped shape the camp into the supportive community it is today, providing healing and hope to countless individuals.
Steve will be remembered for his kind heart, compassion, and profound impact on the lives he touched. He is survived by his loving children: Kirsten (Donavon) Wynn, Benton (Nicole) Quade, Derek (Alicia) Trobaugh, and Alicia (Craig) Gessler. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dominic, Dawson, and Aria Trobaugh; Jackson and Sydnee Wynn; Lillian and Sam Quade; and Hailey and Tanner Nieman. His siblings, Karlene Heilman, Dave Trobaugh, and Michael Trobaugh. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Audrey Trobaugh, his brother Douglas Trobaugh, and his nephew Joshua Trobaugh.
A memorial service to celebrate Steve's life will be held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel at 3220 Stone Park Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 am, followed by funeral services at 11 am on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
