Steven Bryce Simmons, 43 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at his mother’s home in South Sioux City, Nebraska comforted by Hospice of Siouxland after a brief illness.  Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska with Chaplain Janell Norton officiating.   Burial will follow at the Dakota City Cemetery.  Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23rd at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Siouxland.

Steven was born on September 25, 1980 in Wichita Falls, Texas.  He lived in Denton, Texas, until 1988 when he moved to South Sioux City.  Steve graduated in 1999 from South Sioux City High School. After graduation, he worked in a variety of industries, but most notably in construction doing underground utilities.

One of Steve's true passions was martial arts. He spent many years training, eventually earning a prestigious black belt. Steven also enjoyed helping other local martial artists perfect their skills.  As Steven got older, he also enjoyed spending his time fishing and morel mushroom hunting. He also loved to cook, often experimenting with different culinary styles and cuisines.  His proudest accomplishment in life was becoming a dad to his sons, Alexander and Britton, and stepson Matthew.

Steven is survived by parents, Dale and Melissa Hans; special friend, Caitlin Rasco; mother of his children, Kablia Simmons, and sons, Alexander and Britton Simmons; stepson, Matthew Lor; sister, Heather Blom (Seth) and niece, Ava; Grandparents, Terry and JR Ewing; biological father, John McDowell; and many aunts and uncles.

Steven is preceded in death by grandparents, James Simmons, and Marcus and MaryAnn Hans; and uncles Jack Simmons, Rick Brewer and Jim Tullis.

The family would like to thank both Hospice of Siouxland and Jo Morgan for their care and compassion in Steve’s final days.
