Steven Grove, 72, fomerly of Sioux City passed away April 20, 2024 at Happy Siesta Care Facility in Remsen, Iowa. A Celebration of Life is planned for August 14.
He was born Steven Walter Slothower on December 25, 1951 at Methodist Hospital in Sioux City to Lauretta and Robert Slothower. His father served in the Navy during World War II, but was killed in 1952 in an industrial accident. In 1954, his mother married Elmer Grove and he adopted Steven, changing his last name to Grove.
In 1956, the family moved to California. They moved back to Sioux City in 1959. Steven graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Sioux City 1972. After graduating, he attended Northwest Community College in Sheldon, IA. He graduated with a Certified Building Custodian Level II Degree in 1973.
He worked at odd jobs, then Iowa Beef and Tyson Foods for over 35 years. Steven retired in 2016 and lived in Sioux City, Le Mars, and at Happy Siesta for several months and where he was awarded Resident of the Month.
He liked making his peers laugh and joking with the staff. Steven loved hunting and fishing and having a dog or cat to keep him company. Steven loved telling stories of growing up with his brothers.
Steven is survived by brothers: Robert (Linda) Slothower Wimauma, Florida, Jim (Liz) Slothower Denham Springs, Louisiana and Gordon (Linda) Slothower Springdale, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by parents: Robert Slothower, Elmer Grove, Lauretta (Slothower) Grove.
