Steve B. Warnstadt

Steve B. Warnstadt, age 80, passed away at home on May 1, 2025, in Sioux City.

A small private service will be held at a later date per his request. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations directed to the Sioux City Education Association Scholarship or the Siouxland Humane Society.

Steve was born to Toas and Florence (Lundgren) Warnstadt on October 6, 1944 in Sioux City.

Steve married Jacqueline (Harshfield) on June 27, 1964 in Sioux City. Their marriage produced one son, Steven H. Warnstadt.

Steve was part of the first graduating class from Riverside High School in Sioux City in 1962. He graduated from Morningside College in 1966.

Steve taught and coached at Hinton High School from 1971-1985. As head coach, his softball teams were consistently successful, reaching the state tournament in 1982. He coached high school basketball, track, and softball at West High from 1985-2006. Steve taught high school science at different locations in the Sioux City Community Schools from 1985-2012. His instructional excellence resulted in his selection as Sioux City’s Teacher of the Year in 2002.

Steve was the President of the Hinton Education Association for 16 years and a lifetime ISEA and NEA member. He remained committed to quality education by serving on the School Improvement Advisory Committee until his death.

Additionally, Steve applied his tech-savvy skills by working at H & R Block, where he installed and responded to information technology issues for 27 years. He was recently credentialed as a tax preparer.

Steve had a lifetime passion for athletics. He excelled as a fast-pitch softball pitcher. An avid golfer, he served on the Brookside Golf Course board of directors in Kingsley, participating in league activities and helping with tournaments for over 40 years. He frequently played golf with his son, and his grandchildren fondly recall him taking them fishing and supporting their sports activities. He was an enthusiastic Minnesota Timberwolves fan who celebrated their playoff victory hours before passing.

Survivors include his wife Jackie; son Steven and his wife Mary of Sioux City; beloved grandchildren Stephanie and Jackson; sisters Shirley Henderson and Bridget MacDonald; along with several nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by father Toas and mother Florence; brother Toas, Jr; foster brother Scott Holsinger; and nephew Tony Simoni, Jr.
