Steve “Spike” A. Gardner, 67, of Sioux City passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, in his home after a courageous battle against brain cancer.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation with the family will be Friday, February 23, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be at McCook Cemetery.
Steve was born December 25, 1956, in Sioux City, the son of Victor and Neva (Johnson) Gardner. He attended West High School. In 1974, Steve enlisted in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged in 1977. He was united in marriage with Jody Holloway on March 17, 1995 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Steve worked for Jolly Time Popcorn as a manager for 30 years before retirement.
Steve enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandkids. He was a cowboy who loved Pabst Blue Ribbon, hot rods, tractors, stock car racing, the 4 th of July. Story-telling was one of his greatest gifts.
Survivors include his companion: Jennifer Sickels, his children: Heidi (Adam) Knapp of Lebanon, MO, Elizabeth (Josh) Zahner of North Sioux City, and Benjamin (Natalie) Polak of Sioux City; grandchildren: Aleah (Dakota), McKayla (Zach), Dylan, Hannah, Carter, and Olivia; siblings: Rick (Julie), Peg (Wayne), Kevin, Dan (Beverly), and John; and many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul, and wife Jody “Dody” Gardner.
