Stephen Mark "Steve" Miller

December 17, 1951 — December 12, 2023

Sioux City

Our youngest brother Stephen “Steve” Mark Miller met his Best Friend in Life, his Lord and Maker, who ushered him into Heaven from a somber sleep.  He was escorted to the Banquet of Our Lord with trumpets blasting, welcoming him into eternity where he saw his parents Dorothy and John Miller and two of his loving brothers Jerry and Danny.

As his life passed before him, he saw himself as the youngest of six brothers and an onliest sister in the Miller household.  He attended St. Boniface grade school and our beloved Bishop Heelan Catholic High School, along with many friends to help him garnish the most FUN out of his formative years.

When out of school, he wanted to see as many places he had only read about as he was an avid reader…but time and reality brought him back to our fair city to hunker down, put his nose to the grindstone and carve out a living and a place to welcome and raise his most precious son, Mark Christopher Miller, whom he loved and adored.

Steve held numerous jobs and always longing to get a degree to broaden his mind and further educate himself attending Briar Cliff University and USD where he obtained a master’s in business and education and a teaching position at WITCC.

He made many friends along this path in life as he was a gentle soul and cared for people deeply, never putting someone down if they had a different opinion than he, or saying an unkind word about anyone and if he did, it was done in jest due to his great sense of humor.

He loved his beautiful Iowa Hawkeyes and was key in texting all of us their schedule every time they played.  He loved watching certain TV shows with a very good friend, Barret, where they could be challenged for an answer as in Jeopardy and Cash Cab and show off his being a “wordsmith”.  And last but not least was his love for the sport of golf.  He spent many hours on the links until it got to be too much and with his physical ability declining, he had to give it up.

Steve you will be truly missed with your almost there smile, yet genuine laugh from the belly and just your overall kind mannerisms.  You loved your family and fellow man, along with your country, as a true "Patriot of the Constitution".  This was your calling card.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son:  Chris (Lindsey) Miller and granddaughters:  Emily and Avery; his wonderful friend Kathy; a special niece Katrina whom he practically grew up with, then his remaining siblings:  Madonna, Richard, Bob (Judi), Michael (Sherry); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and John, and two brothers Jerry and Danny.

Steve, Happy Birthday this Sunday, December 17th, as your first birthday in Heaven.  hip hip Requiescat in Pace.
