Somjit Lorius, 77 passed away June 10, 2025 in Los Angeles, CA. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 29, 2025 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, followed by a Graveside Service at 2:00 P.M. at Logan Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Dave. Family and friends are invited to gather afterwards at the Sioux City Elks Lodge 112, 1001 Tri View Ave.
Born May 8, 1948 in Thailand, Somjit (Muangsong) spent much of her life in Sioux City, IA. She grew up in the village of Kusuman, in the Sakon Nakhon region of Thailand and met her first husband, Scott Haberer, while working as a housekeeper at Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base nearby. Scott and Somjit married in Thailand in 1975, moved to the U.S. soon after, and briefly lived on Myrtle Beach Air Force Base in South Carolina, where their daughter Becky was born. They later settled in Sioux City, until their divorce in 1987.
Somjit continued to live in Sioux City and worked as a seamstress at Aalfs Manufacturing, then as a housekeeper at Merry Maids, and eventually retired as a housekeeper at Country Manor Nursing Home in Morningside. Her coworkers remember her as a sweet, reliable and hardworking person.
Somjit married David Lorius in 1993. She met Dave through mutual friends and coworkers from Merry Maids. Dave and Somjit had fun fishing, visiting family and friends, introducing them to authentic Thai cuisine, and caring for their cats and dogs. They simply enjoyed spending time together, even if only to run errands, catch an action film or go shopping. Somjit appreciated that Dave was a kind and engaged stepfather to Becky.
At the end of 2022, following the passing of her husband Dave, Somjit moved to an apartment at Kingsley Manor Senior Residences in Los Angeles, CA. Living at Kingsley allowed Somjit to spend time with her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, and included fun outings to the beach, movies, and gardens along with weekly trips to the Thai Town neighborhood of LA. She made new friends at Kingsley, where everyone remembers her kind nature. Somjit was able to visit family and friends in the Midwest for Thanksgiving in 2023, and traveled to San Diego in 2024, where she visited family as well as the daughter (Diana Hudson) of her childhood friend, Da Terrel.
Somjit is survived by her daughter, Becky (Philipp) Stolz of Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter, Grete Stolz of Los Angeles, CA, sister-in-law, Dawn Schmidt of Olathe, KS; brothers-in-law, Daniel (Mai) Lorius of Merriam, KS and Michael (Carita) Lorius of Olathe, KS; and nephews and nieces, Josh, Travis, Emily, Alex and Logan. She also leaves her former spouse, Scott Haberer of Sioux City, IA; sister-in-law, Vicki (Case) Meyerding of Roseville, MN; brother-in-law, Reed Haberer of San Diego, CA; and stepmother to Becky, Deb Cook of Lincoln, NE.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Lorius.
Somjit will be missed by those who knew her well. May we all treasure moments of beauty and joy in her honor.
