Shirley D. Tagg

Shirley D. Tagg, 97 of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Charter Senior Living of Sioux City, comforted by her daughters. Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2025 at Whitfield Methodist Church in Sioux City.  Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be offered to Whitfield Methodist Church, Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, or Noah's Hope Animal Rescue in Sioux City.

Shirley was born on November 27, 1927 in Wausa, Nebraska, daughter of William J. and Anna (Johnson) Foreman. She attended Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from Central High School in January of 1946. After high school, Shirley started at St. Joseph Nursing School but changed career plans and married Berton Tagg in 1947 (they had 74 wonderful years together).

Shirley was a Financial Secretary for the Sioux City Teacher’s Credit Union and then the Sioux City Public School District, working at West High School for many years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Whitfield Methodist Church for over 70 years. Shirley was a 50-year member of Chapter AC, TTT Society and 50+ year member of Chapter GZ, P.E.O. and served offices in both organizations. She was a volunteer for St. Luke’s Auxiliary and was awarded her 500-hour pin.

Shirley enjoyed playing bridge, was an enthusiastic reader, and was an avid golfer. She played league golf for many years: Hidden Acres Ladies Club, Green Valley, and was a charter member of the Sun Valley Thursday Club. Shirley was also a member of golf leagues in Arizona for 15 years. She was a club golf champion multiple times and had 2 hole-in-ones in her lifetime. She was the recipient of 4 Arizona golf medallions, but her absolute favorite pastime was playing golf with her family. Shirley also loved drama and music of all kinds and sang in the Women’s Club Chorus. She loved to fish and she loved her roses and had rose gardens wherever she lived.

Shirley and her family enjoyed their condo in Vail, Colorado; skiing in the winter and hiking and golfing in the summers.

Survivors include her two daughters; Sue Whitehead and her husband Dave of Denver, Colorado and Lori Snow of Sioux City, Iowa; two grandsons Adam Whitehead of Anchorage, Alaska and Ben (Melissa) Whitehead of Denver, Colorado; brother-in-law Tony Verschoor of Sioux City, Iowa; sister-in-law Shirley Foreman of Spokane, Washington.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bert in 2021, son Robert, 6 sisters, and 3 brothers.
