Shirley Ann Schlag

May 4, 1938 — September 22, 2022

Shirley Ann (Raynor) Schlag, 84, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022 after a brief stay at Holy Spirit Nursing Home.  Funeral Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 28th at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home before the service begins at 6:30 p.m.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Shirley Ann was born on May 4, 1938 in Elk Point, South Dakota, oldest daughter of Ed and Louise (Henke) Raynor with 5 siblings.  After graduating high school Shirley moved to Sioux City where she worked for several area businesses, including Sears, running a comptometer adding yearly inventory numbers.  She met and married Robert L. Schlag in 1959 at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. 

Shirley graduated from Stewarts School of Hair and ran her own beauty shop “Golfview Salon” out of her home for 35 years.  She was also an accomplished art painter, seamstress and crafter.  While running her beauty shop, she also kept busy as a Tupperware and Park Lane Jewelry Sales woman, and teaching sewing.

Shirley is survived by her son Rex (Diane) Schlag of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; her daughter Renee Schlag of Maryville, Missouri; 4 grandchildren: Ashley Schlag of New York, New York; Megan (Dan) Reel of Sioux City, Iowa; Shelbe Schlag of West Des Moines, Iowa; and Kamryn Schlag of Kansas City, Missouri; three great-grandchildren: Harrison, Charlotte, and Frederick Reel of Sioux City, Iowa; siblings Edna Timm, Bob (Diane) Raynor, Betty (Frank) Gill, and Marla Angerhoffer; and brother-in-law Bruce Olson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert L. Schlag in 2010, sister Joy Olson, and brother-in-law Lyle Timm.
