South Sioux City

Shirley J. Munhofen, 95 of South Sioux City was escorted to heaven by our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 surrounded by family. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Dakota City United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, September 20, 2024 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. 

Shirley was born the daughter of Vance and Rachel (McCrory) Burris on January 12, 1929 in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Central High School in 1947. She married Kenneth J. “Kenny” Munhofen on November 11, 1947 in Sioux City. 

Shirley was a maid and caretaker for several South Sioux City and Sioux City families. She had a special relationship with the Kline family with whom she worked for many years. 

She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She also liked reading, doing embroidery, gardening, fishing and traveling. If someone was going somewhere, she was going too!

Survivors include a son, Lawrance (Linda) Munhofen of South Sioux City, NE, a daughter, Kendra (Charles) Cigard of Springfield, MO; two foster daughters, Vicky (Paul) Greening of Kingman, AZ and Toby Varvais of South Sioux City, NE; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Munhofen; eleven grandchildren, Troy Munhofen, Tracy (Kevin) Likes, Jennifer (Tim) Bulizak, Kristy (Rich) Sindt, Robert Cigard, Tyler (Kristin) Cigard, Rachel (P.J.) Justice, Laura (Brandon) Coffman, James (Reno) Varvais, Timothy (Kristen) Varvais, Wendy Nebbia; 21 great-grandchildren, Krystopher, Easton, Bryce, Zach, Lewis, Alexa, Brandon, Bentleigh, Audrey, Ava, Kaden, Zoe, Caleb, Tate, Teagan, Brylee, Kennedi, Austin, James, Nicholas, Brianna; and 1 great-great grandchild, Brielle. Also, her beloved cat, Curry AKA “the boss”.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenny; son, John; sister, Amber; and cherished aunt, Zola.

The family would be honored to have donations given to The ALS Association.
