Shirley A. Heath, 89 of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024. A funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Shirley was born the daughter of Warren and Lois (Wise) Hosmer on June 28, 1934 in Fedora, South Dakota. She graduated from Artesian High School and completed business college at NBT. She met her future husband, Darloe Heath, in Sioux City. The couple was married on July 11, 1954. Together they raised 3 daughters, Darla, Julie and Nancy.

Shirley worked at Crescent Electric and later, Younkers for several years.

She was a longtime member of Mayflower Congregational UCC. She was a nursery mother and was active in her daughters’ school activities. She was also a longtime member of the Postal Women’s Auxiliary.

Shirley enjoyed collecting things, mainly salt and pepper shakers. She enjoyed growing flowers in her garden, having family gatherings, and attending grandchildren’s events. Her chocolate brownies were legendary.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Darla Heath of Santa Fe, NM, Julie and Steven Cunningham of Sioux City, IA and Nancy and Bryan Stingley of Jackson, NE; 4 grandchildren, Sarah Holliday, Heath Cunningham, Jane Cunningham and Carson (Dustin) Roth; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Thompson, Ardith Scott, and Sidney Tompkins; and sister-in-law, Shirley M. Heath.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darloe; brother, Verlin Hosmer and his wife, Carol Ann; and brothers-in-law, Orrin Thompson, Morris Scott, and Cliff Wietgrefe.
