Shirley M. Fairbanks

Shirley M. Fairbanks, 86 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at a local hospital.  Funeral Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2023 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Shirley was born on April 24, 1936 at home on Gateway Place in Sioux City to Roy E. and Nina (Mace) Brown, Jr.  She received her education in the Sioux City Public Schools.  She worked concessions at the Orpheum Theater, where she met and later married Melvin John Fairbanks on July 21, 1956.  Shirley worked over the years at Wincharger, Motorola, and was involved early-on with the head-injured in Siouxland (due to having a head injured son, Shirley gave countless hours of her time and life).

She enjoyed researching genealogy, collecting of WWII and Sweetheart pins, political badges & buttons, marbles, magnets, keys, keychains, masks, and countless other treasures. 

Shirley is survived by her son Wade (Christine Miller) Fairbanks, son Brett Fairbanks all of Sioux City; grandchildren Joshua, Angela, Brittany, Mercedes, Shayanne, and Maggie; her sister Elda; and special niece Carolyn.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin on June 4, 2002, 5 brothers, and 4 sisters.
