Sheila Diane Cummings

December 24, 1968 — May 4, 2024

Sioux City, IA

Sheila Diane Cummings, a devoted nurse specializing in elder care, passed away on May 4, 2024, after sustaining injuries in an automobile accident near West Point, Nebraska. She was born on December 24, 1968, in Springfield, Oregon.

Throughout her life, Sheila touched the hearts of many with her compassionate nature and unwavering dedication to caring for others. Her career in nursing was not just a job a true calling, and she found fulfillment in making a difference in the lives of those she cared for. Sheila will be remembered as a proud mother of two sons, Devon and Dayne. Family was at the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Holidays held a special place in her heart, as she would joyfully decorate her home and open its doors to anyone looking to share in the festive spirit.

Aside from her professional and familial roles, Sheila had a vibrant personality and a zest for life. Her love for thrift store shopping, visits to the Hard Rock Casino, and passion for music brought joy to those around her.

In reflecting on her proudest accomplishments, it is clear that Sheila's greatest achievement was being a caregiver – a role she embraced wholeheartedly with kindness and empathy.

Sheila leaves behind cherished memories with her surviving family and friends: two sons - Devon Cummings of Dakota Dunes, SD and Dayne Cummings of Sioux City, IA; significant other Ronnie King of Sioux City; siblings Yvonne Naylor of Austin, TX, Jim (Kathy) McCrain of Frisco, TX, Suzanne Kenitzer of Fresno, CA; along with four nephews and one niece: James, Joshua, Jacob, Chance, and Crystal; other relatives; and countless friends.

She is now reunited with her beloved mom Donna Chesnut and brother Jason Edward Mayden who have gone before her.

Sheila's presence will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace knowing that she made the world a brighter place during her time with us.

A private service for Sheila will be held at a later date.
