Sharon Leitru

March 2, 1953 — February 22, 2024

Sharon Arlene Leitru, 70, of McCook Lake SD passed away peacefully on Thursday February 22nd at Mercy One Hospital in Sioux City IA.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Meyer Brother’s Colonial Chapel on Saturday March 2nd from 1:00-4:00 PM.

Sharon was born on March 2nd 1953 in Wagner SD to Floyd and Verna Peterson.  She spent her early years in Pierre SD before moving to Sioux City where she grew up and graduated from Central High School in 1973.

On September 1st 1984 Sharon married the love of her life John Leitru. They made McCook Lake their home where they raised their three children Neil, Marty, & Laura.

Sharon spent the majority of her professional career working as a radiology technician for Siouxland Urology where she worked for 37 years. She made many of her lifelong friends, who became more like family while working there. The friendships she formed there went far beyond the office as she and her girls favorite things to do together included cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, spending time at the lake, and going on vacation together. Sharon was proud to be able to retire in February 2019.

Sharon enjoyed life in many ways where her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her friends & family. Her favorite role was being the “fun grandma” to her grandkids and spending time with them taking them out for different activities. Another one of her favorite things to do was attending Broadway shows. She made many trips to see different shows as well as holding season tickets with her dear friend Connie for many years.  

Sharon is survived by her children; Neil (Tammy) Leitru of Yankton, Marty (Ashley) Leitru of Sioux City, and Laura (Seth) Anderson of Sioux Falls. Grandchildren; Brian, Krissy (Mat), Dustin, Brett, & Alex Leitru. Great-grandchildren Micah & Amara Leitru. Sisters; Neva Bookhart of Sioux City & Shirley Peterson  (Keith Wilson) of New Waverly TX. Sister-in-law Lea Edwards of Vermillion & Brother-in-law Tom Leitru of Merrill.

She was preceded in death by her husband John & her parents.
