Shane William Van De Steeg, 55, of Sioux City, IA, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 13, 2025. He was born January 22, 1970, in Sioux City, IA, to Gordon Dixon and Nancy (Moe) Van De Steeg.
Shane graduated from East High School in Sioux City in 1988 and later attended Hawkeye Community College. He embarked on a career with Gateway Computers in North Sioux City, SD, where he made many lifelong friends. He worked at Gateway until 2008, before transitioning into buying and selling real estate. In addition to his work as a realtor, he owned and managed several rental properties with his wife. In October of 2024, Shane and his beloved wife, Karen (Aldrich) Van De Steeg, celebrated 20 years of marriage with a milestone trip to Saint Martin/Sint Maarten with close friends.
Shane was a notorious jokester and had a devilish sense of humor, always up for making his friends laugh. He would always raise a glass with you, no matter the hour. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and perfecting his grilling and smoking techniques.
He is survived by his wife Karen; children Kathryn Forneris (Taylor) and Dominick Forneris; mother Nancy (Moe) Van De Steeg; father Gordon Dixon; siblings Mike (Trisha) Van De Steeg, Staci Downing (Matt), James “Jim” Van De Steeg, Zach Dixon (Elizabeth); nieces and nephews Kaleb, Allee, Ava, Joshua, Logan, Michael (“Mikey”), Zane, and countless friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his dad, Jim Van De Steeg.
Funeral services will be held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 10:30 am with a luncheon to follow. The family also will be hosting an informal gathering at the same location on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Please wear your best flannel or camo attire to the gathering (if you own any) in Shane’s honor.
