Scott Leon Wilson

Feb 15, 1958 — Jul 2, 2026

Sioux City, Iowa

Scott Leon Wilson, 68, of Sioux City, IA, passed away peacefully at home on July 2, 2026, surrounded by family. Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Scott would like friends and family to gather immediately following at the Sioux City Country Club. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM on Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Scott was born on February 15, 1958, in Sioux City, to Dale and Jo Ann (Heslop) Wilson. He graduated from West High School in 1976 and furthered his education at Morningside College graduating in 1980. He married Kim Aspleaf on May 17, 1980. They shared three children, Gregg, Alex, and Rachel and later divorced.

He experienced great joy becoming a grandfather to Beau, Silas, Joanna, and Amelia.

Scott went on to become a successful and well-respected commercial banker in Sioux City. He recently retired after 45 years in the industry, the last 24 years spent with Central Bank. Scott served on several local boards throughout his career, including Food Bank of Siouxland, Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA of Siouxland, Opportunities Unlimited, Sioux City Country Club, Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, and Siouxland Mental Health.

Scott married his wife, Denise, on February 11, 2006, in La Jolla, CA. They returned there this year to celebrate their 20-year wedding anniversary. Scott enjoyed traveling, playing golf, walking, and lifting weights. He had a deep love for family and friends and very much enjoyed grilling out for them over the years. One couldn’t enjoy a better steak than one prepared on his grill. He also loved cooking an excellent and plentiful Thanksgiving meal. He cherished memories made with those he loved over great food. And, he treasured the times he could share “life lessons with Leon” with his children and good friends.

Scott is survived by his wife; mother Jo Ann Wilson; brothers Mark (Patty) Wilson of Chicago, IL; and Kirk Wilson of Sioux City; children Gregg Wilson (Meagan Archer) of Sioux City, Alex (Megan) Wilson of Windom, MN, and Rachel (Joe) Steinle of Windom, MN; grandchildren Beau Wilson, Silas Wilson, Joanna Steinle, and Amelia Steinle. He is also survived by his Aunt Cheryl Vonderharr of Buena Park, CA; nephew Reid (Arial) Wilson of Chicago; niece Erin (Alex) Randazzo of Chicago, IL; mother-in-law Nancy Gesink of Kingsley, IA; sister-in-law Melissa (Doug) Wurth of Kingsley, IA and their children Madison and Xander; among many extended family members and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Dale; grandparents; father-in-law Brian Gesink; among many extended family members and good friends.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Sue LeGree and the rest of the medical team at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center for their exceptional care throughout Scott’s journey. They would also like to thank the medical team at UnityPoint, especially Val, for keeping him comfortable in his final days.

Memorials may be directed to Food Bank of Siouxland.
