Sally Smith, age 74, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away July 1, 2026 peacefully and with grace surrounded by her children after a lengthy battle with ALS. Services are pending and will be announced soon.

Sally was born February 10, 1952 to Frank and Mabel Roberts. She was the youngest of their six children and was raised on their small family acreage near Stone Park. She attended Crescent Park Elementary School and graduated from Central High School.

Sally married Howard Smith in 1973 and together they had four children, Heather, Tiffany, Niki and Eric. Sally’s early years of motherhood were spent with her children; raising them at home in a neighborhood filled with friends. As a young family, they spent countless hours camping, fishing, hiking, and enjoying nature and the outdoors.

Sally entered college as a non-traditional student and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Briar Cliff University. Sally began her professional career as the Program Director for Girls Inc. in Sioux City, Iowa, after which she joined Hospice of Siouxland. Some of her most personal and professional lifelong relationships were developed during her time at Hospice. Sally also obtained her masters degree from the University of Iowa while working at Hospice. Sally went on to help pioneer the Siouxland Pace Program. She held the Program Director position at Siouxland PACE until she retired.

Sally’s ALS diagnosis presented many challenges, but she faced them with strength, courage, and determination. With the help of close friends and family, she managed and lived her life in her own way in spite of her ALS diagnosis. Sally inspired so many people during her life of service to others. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

Sally is survived by her four children: Heather (Bob) Poncelet, Tiffany (Bob) Nettleton, Niki (Jim) Frazier, Eric (Mia) Smith, her eight grandchildren, Robert, Madison, Vasiliki, Isabelle, Ezra, Alexandria, Salome, Vai and two great grandchildren Lainey and Lincoln. She is also survived by two siblings, Dorothy and Jim.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mabel, and her brothers Tom, George, and Don.
