Sally Joan Howard, 75, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A private family celebration of life will be held on another date.
Sally was born on April 11, 1951, in Sioux City, the daughter of Fernant Dutch and Vanetta Violet (Barrett) Elgert. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School. Throughout her working years, Sally was employed as a surgical technician at St. Vincent Hospital and also worked at Prodenco Dental Lab.
On May 18, 1984, Sally married Richard Howard in Elk Point, South Dakota. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.
Above all else, Sally's greatest pride and joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother and great-grandmother who treasured every moment spent with those she loved. Nothing brought her more happiness than being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether sharing stories, enjoying family gatherings, or simply spending time together, Sally found her greatest blessings in the people she held closest to her heart. Sally enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially working on puzzles and getting lost in a good book.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Richard Howard of Sioux City; daughter, Jerri Lynn McWilliams (Matthew Habeger) of Sioux City; son, Dan (Nicole) Mitchell of Stillwater, OK; grandchildren: Katie (Dylan) Davis, Reed (Brianna) McWilliams, Tyler (Amber) McWilliams, Austin Mitchell, Aidan Mitchell, and Akira Mitchell; great-grandchildren: Riley, Cash, Laila, Alic, Phoebe, Kenny, and Amelia; siblings: Dianna Heibel, Tom Elgert, Mark Elgert, Dale Elgert, Cathy Labrensz, and Scott Elgert; and siblings-in-law: Rod (Ronda) Howard, Liz Howard, and Leora Howard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fernant and Vanetta Elgert; son-in-law, Kenneth McWilliams; siblings: Carroll, Jeanette, and Doug; and siblings-in-law, Lindy and Randy.
Sally's greatest gift was the love she shared with her family, and that love will remain in their hearts forever.
