Rose Marie (Anderson) Hagan

February 28, 1926 — April 25, 2024

Rose Marie (Anderson) Hagan, 98, a radiant and vivacious spirit, added to the grace and glory of heaven Thursday morning, April 25, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Born February 28th, 1926, Rosie lived a fulfilling life doing things she enjoyed most with those she cherished dearly. She was born to Edwin “Ed” and Mable (Johnson) Anderson in Elk Point, South Dakota. They later made their home in Sioux City, IA when she was an infant.

At the age of 16, she started working for Woolworths and also Kresge’s. During the World War II, Rose worked at the Coca-Cola plant where she put bottles of Coke into crates. Later in life, Rose also enjoyed working at the Reddy Room at IPS.

She found her passion in life when she took cake decorating classes from Della Troop. She’ll be heard whistling a sweet melody in the grand kitchen offering her well-known confections and savory dishes; designing beautiful cakes for those heavenly celebrations above. She made countless wedding, anniversary, and birthday cakes for friends and loved ones over the years—including every one of her five children’s wedding cakes. The cakes she decorated were anything from Baby Congratulations Cakes, Circus Cakes with animals, and Barbie Doll Cakes. For the grown-ups, she had orders for Six Pack of Beer Cakes, “Boob Cakes,” Guitar Cakes, and many, many Panda Bear Cakes.

Rose married Wayne Hagan on January 5, 1946, and to this union five children were born: Bonnie, Terry, Eddie, Mary, and Linda. Wayne passed away in 1983.

Rose met Jack Jessip at an Eagles Club dance in South Sioux City in 1986. Her love of dance was shared with her life partner of 33 years, who embraces her as she joins him on the celestial dance floor. For Rose and Jack, it was love at first sight, and they combined their families demonstrating a legacy of love between them. They enjoyed traveling together, often escaping the cold months in exchange for the warmth in the southern states. Jack passed away on March 24, 2019.

She is well-known for her quick wit and infectious smile, her love for hot dogs and keeping us on our toes. Rose enjoyed the great caretakers and delightful staff at Whispering Creek Retirement Village and, for the past five years, at the Sunrise Retirement Community. She always missed her pink house on South Maple Street. Rose and Linda celebrated May Day every year by making May Day baskets for all the neighbors. This tradition continued at Whispering Creek and Sunrise Senior Living.

Rosie is survived by her 5 children: Bonnie Richardson, Terry Hagan, Eddie Hagan, Mary Hagan and Linda Kriener (Dan Kriener), and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is welcomed into heaven by her parents: Ed and Mable Anderson; husband, Wayne Hagan; life partner Jack Jessip; grandson, Jeff Richardson; and sisters Margaret Welch and Shirley Anderson. Rose, we love you more, more, more.
